I’ve been working all week on a chapter about re-directing problem wildlife from your food plants in the garden and today I finished that chapter. Feels pretty good, so I’m going to celebrate by taking myself to the movies tonight!
As I was writing I got a picture show of a different sort with the mother doe of twins showing up outside my studio window, as she very often does a couple of time a day. The twins were playing tag in the yard with a rock squirre! I am honestly not kidding about this!! The rock squirrel was in the pear tree and the fawns underneath it browsing for fallen fruit with their mom. The squirrel would run down the tree right under their noses and then they would chase it around the front yard in circles, then the squirrel would run back up the tree. This went on for probably 20 minutes or so. I’m not sure if they were truly playing or if the squirrel was peeved that they were eating the fallen pears, but in either case it was really fun to watch. Now the squirrel has gone off and the deer family has moved into the flower seed crop field and are nibbling away at some bindweed. Funny how they like that bindweed…they have become quite helpful in managing that weed in our field with their browsing.
Tomorrow I start the next chapter of the book. Only two more chapters to write, plus all the supportive sections. Onward then!
